Letscommunicate Interactive Traffic System - Work Log

Guys,

I've been using a private system ( some of you have seen ) which shows live traffic info using a web browser and is touch screen freindly.

Any way - I'm doing a public version now and I'm also looking at adding Speedcams, Traffic cams ( working in private mode ) and if I can work out how to map the google map work with a GPS location feed some how.

I may even add tracking from GPSGate / Webmasters service on the dark side but thats a way off.

I'll edit this post later with further details but I'm currently looking at convcerting a Oprea plugin to run from the web..... I'll be asking the authours OK once it works to make public.

In the mean time if your intrested in helping you need to have a good understanding of the Google map API, Java script possibly and HTML - I'm trying to stay away from php.

Terran

UPDATE 12/12/07
Just for refrence really - RT provided a working system and infact has helped out accessing DATEXII feeds....

My self and Monza started working on PC clients - info you can find here.... http://www.digital-car.co.uk/forum/s...&postcount=288

UPDATE: 26/10/07

Radiotrib has done a massive amount of work on this project and got it going again. Because of this I have sent a limited number of well known developers around here to have a look and play ( and hopefully support ) this system....

I've also opened up a proper Sourceforge project site @ http://sourceforge.net/projects/informatics/ - Come on and join us and help develope this thing for all our benifits.

UPDATE: 01/09/07

Thanks to Confused some of the existing system is now running and I'll be looking at updating the scripts any time soon based on the new data types from the Highways Agency. In the mean time the supporting web site is now completed.... you can access it here http://www.letscommunicate.co.uk/connected/

Theres still plenty to add to it but I want to start working on the system its self now so we can start using it. I've confirmed that some of the PC software that was developed some time ago by Gobby is still available and when completed all the details of how to use it your self will also be available. ( Some old examples on the web site now ).

I'd like to say thanks to Steveig who created this in the first place - with out him or Gobby we would not be where we are today.

UPDATE: 15/08/07

New web site under construction ( about %70 done ), Web interface work stopped while I restore the Infomatics service.... - once thats done I'll be able to carry on and then develope the interface but the back end still needs lots of work due to data changes.

UPDATE: 05/08/07

My plan is to add simple messaging, POIs, speed cams, weather, specific news ( based on location ) and may be other stuff so its not just a traffic system. God knows how I'll do it but thats the plan :)

I'd like to get some tracking working and may be get it to work with Webmasters server / GPSgates too plus if at all possible soem way of planning a route and then having it sent / picked up in your car.

Stevieg is in the process of setting the old Infomatics stuff up for me on my server after which I'll contiunue the crash course although I can't say when this will be done as hes doing me ( and you guys ) a massive favour.

In the mean time I'm still playing with my basic version at http://www.letscommunicate.co.uk/carpc/traffic/ although there is no gntee this will work at any time as I'm fiddling with it ( the code that is before you say it E ).

Just as a side note - the HA are changing their data feeds at the mo. I've now got access to the old ones but these are to be closed in the next couple of months.

I'm just awaiting access to the new ones but until then I can't tell you what the content will be.... but I'm told their are very detailed.....

Ok - Layers issue resolved - some thing I can do after... problem is that the attached Java script does a lot of the control & populating... I'll have to go through it but I guess its looking for Opera or some thing before running.

Can't see any thing that does any thing else bar refrence it in the index.

Heres the test URL for any one who wants to play.

Its late and my head hurts....

Can any one see where the errors are coming from here ?

http://www.letscommunicate.co.uk/car...fic/roadwatch/

There are two - ( As per IE )

Line 130 Char 2 code 0 "DOMParser Is Unidentified"
&
Line 12 Char 1 code 0 "HTMLElement Is Unidentified"

I'll be jiggered if I can find the file its refering too cause its not the index.html....

Terran

PS Its working - Just trying to get the elements to display

Right - I think the problem lies in calling the main .js. Its refrenced in the header but as its for Opera I guess this is the issue.

"<script type="text/javascript">
app = new watchtheRoad();
</script>"

Line 45 index.html.....

Thats the key line that think is failing to call watchtheroad.js and therefore generating the errors I'm seeing.
