hello peeps! I could really do with some reports of how this is performing/installing, especially on lower end machines so I can know how to fix/optimise etc.

if you havne't already, please d/l the alpha release from here, and apply this patch, then follow the readme.txt in c:\velocity to launch it.

if you've already d/l'd it, then just apply the patch above.

Remmeber this needs to run at 640x480 or 800x600. Any higher than that, and you'll see some degredation in framerate due to flash not having any h/w acceleration (which is coming soon it seems).

for those that had problems with video not displaying, I've now added a flag to disable overlay mode. you can change this in the velocity.properties file in the c:\velocity directory

I'll soon be using jvlc, which is a java version of VLC. This will require some work, but will give some better performance and features.

comon boys, I really need ya!

sure fella. I'm doing some more work tonight to fix a couple of issues.

it's looking more and more that I have to ditch the idea of vlc over network and integrate it into java using jvlc hooks.

ok, flash is the culprit to bad performance. too much animation. To fix, you need to right click on SAFlash in the task manager, and set the SAFlashPlayer priority to lowest

this will make verything run smoothly. I just tested it on a celeron lappy here.

I'll automate this, hopefully in the next patch

ok, it's 3:46 AM, and I've fixed many of the errors people have been getting.

I've optimised performance, eliminated rogue processes and simplified the launch procedure. You can also install it anywhere as it all works referentially now.

If this is the first time you install Velocity, then look here first

If you already have velocity installed from last time, then you can just download the latest installer

To run the app, just double click on velocity.jar

Let me know how you fare please!

hoooo! that sorted the video issue. i played the video of 2fast and Paola and it came up straight away and played all the way through but i did still get a string of errors.

the flash cpu dropped ot as low as 5% during playback.

cool! Flash just needed to be told it can't just take take take! I've pragmatically done this now in the new released.

the errors will always be there as vlc randomly drops video frames when it can't keep up. I even get those on my 2.33 Core 2. As long as the framerate's acceptable, then we're good.

see, told ya Java's fast :)
