Looks like God_of_CPU waited on here, lurking till someone posted about StreetDeck, then Bam, in with a post

RR may flatten SD with features, but for ease of use for people who aren't seasoned geeks, it seems to win hands down.

I have loads of my mates asking when I will build them a carpc... Well the answer is either, when you learn how to fix your own PC, or when software is a little less intense.

CarPC software is currently too immature to allow joe blogs to make it work. And if there wasn't so many difficult issues, MP3Car and indeed all the other CarPC sites wouldn't be so popular!

Not very inconspicuous, godofcpu

There's only one thing i've seen in StreetDeck that looks innovative - but we'd already rejected the idea due to the fact it'd look crap - trying to make MapPoint look 3d

For anyone to be serious about being in the CarPC business the software needs to be much more stable and easy to set up.

Can you imagine the nightmare when everyone you've fit/supplied comes back a week later cause of a windows driver/usb fault, or corrupt RR files, dodgey Winamp, GPS mouse missing, PC won't boot into windows, music not playing, album art not showing, and people who generally don't know how to troubleshoot a PC...

Thats why SD only has a hardware warranty !

Still dont see how any chargable system can be long term viable due to support issues as well as customer expectations. This very subject has been discussed at length on PocketGPS when they made the desicion to go commerical with the speed camera data base.

The main problem here is that there are so many 'freeware' options ... as I said yes Joe Bloggs may speed $2k in PC World on one of these but what will happern when he discoveres what he could do and for how much... not counting the fact its a beta.

I'm also intrested in how because of the above the 'freeware' offerings that currently have their own forums will get on or will they have to find a new home due to MP3cars conflict of intrest ?

As a brand MP3car has some thing to offer but I really dont thing replication of what is been offered out for free ( not counting hardware ) is the way to go and can only serve to damage that reputation.
