Question LinITX 7" Transflective - Light sensor?

Hi everyone,

I'm nearly at the stage of putting my carpc and lcd into the car! I just need to relocate the light sensor....

However I have a few questions:

1.Has anyone sucessfully lengethened the wire that the light sensor is connected to?

2.Is it a simple case of cutting the wire, solder/heatshrink in a longer length, voila?

3.Will a longer wire somehow alter the resistance/light sensing abilities of the sensor?

4.Should the wire match the same gauge or is slightly thicker recommended?

The sensor looks like this:

Any help greatly appreciated,

Cheers.

So you soldered the IR sensor and light sensor to an RJ45 cable. Did you choose the RJ45 purely so you could disconnect it at will?

I'm not too hot on RJ45 cable... I know there's crossover cable but is there also straight through cable so the pin outs are the same both ends?

Yep - dead easy....

Thing to remember though is that in CAT cable its colour coded so remember to get the right colours.... I did this by selecting what I needed ( 4 of the solid colours not banded ) and snipped the rest.

So I took one complete CAT cable and chopped in half, eventually it looked like:

IR/Light Sensor---->Plug---->( male to male RJ45 coupler )<----Plug<----IR/Light Sensor Cables off the PCB

Nice method you used. Just used your method with a CAT5 cable/coupler to do the same to fit mine into my Discovery 3.

I have mounted mine into the chassis that the Disco 3 Factory SatNav screen uses (for a nice OEM looking mount)..... Had a scary moment as I forgot to take a picture of the cable connections - luckilly a thread on here saved my bacon - the cable that comes from the touchscreen is not keyed !! Luckilly sorted it.

Plus managed to re-engineer the buttons on the chassis (factory nav has two) so have a power and brightness control - again used some CAT5 to extend.

Cheers
