Hi everyone, not been on here long and in fact think this may be my first ever post! Just looking for some general advice before I start to look for bits and pieces that I want or need to get this idea complete.

I'm looking to put a carputer in my 2001 Ford Focus, now as I understand the current sterio space is not quite double din so would need slight modification to get a screen to fit, which I'm not overly worried about as plenty of scrappys about etc.

My real question lies with what I intend on using if possible, I have two laptops which have got dodgey keyboards on them now and thought using one of these could be the perfect way of starting of a carpc build without overloading myself with work (and expenses).

Has anyone on here ever used a laptop in their build before? And if so what hints, tips or advice can they offer? For example is it best to take it to bits and rebuild or leave everything as it is? Although my fear in doing that is cooling as I have never built a pc or anything before so am a complete novice and know how hot a laptop can get when using for prolonged times!

The next thing I'm considering is installing sun visor screens which I have lying doing nothing, my first guess is that it would be worth installing everything at once? Naturally I would want these to match the display on the pc so imagine that hooking them up to an output of the screen I use for the pc would suffice?
