Sweet!

I really want to see inside the screen of these to see if the backlight can be beefed up.

I PMed him to ask him if he would share some more info on here. He is local to me too by the looks of it.

Hello Folks,

My apologies for not popping over sooner - I wasn't aware I'd been PM'd by Monkey (and a few other folks on the other forums) until stumbling upon this thread from Google. I've got a few messages to write!

Thank you all for your comments.
I'd be very happy to answer questions if you have any.

Since my original post I've dropped the HTML5 interface for a Flash version, which I'm currently building. Assuming it all comes together I'll pop the SWF online for others to use. The source for the HTML version has been popped online if you're interested:
Download Here (http://www.xgeox.com/public/projects/vehicle%20computer/HTML5%20Audio%20Player.zip) (Zipped)

Unfortunately the original plan of using UNR's Chrome and an HTML5 interface fell through after it became apparent that:
- Chrome's HTML5 features (eg. audio playback) appear to be quite unstable (at least on UNR)
- Unlike the O2 version of Ubuntu, UNR is not particularly tolerant of being powered off without being 'shutdown'

I've now successfully got a Flash app reading and parsing an M3U playlist, displaying album art and playing MP3 files (everything running from an external USB flash stick).
I plan to have the SWF start automatically, such that the native OS is never seen.

I'm currently working out how to get the Joycon device to work with the native OS, so that I can retain the steering-wheel control I had with UNR.

Hi Xgeox,

thaks for the info, you may have already tried but i have found Linux Mint runs a lot faster than UNR - http://joggler.exotica.org.uk/
it seems a lot cleaner too

Worth a play if not anything else.

yeah there is a few options now.

Including an android froyo image for GM500 atom devices but sadly it needs some work to get it running on the joggler.

I am still waiting to hear back from Beezer about his.

here is his: http://www.digital-car.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=269877&postcount=23

no it wont run - I suspect due to the EFI.

The image is for the Viliv S5 hand held device which irritatingly has a Bios.

yeah have tried android 1.6 but GUI too slow.

got online with it though.

2.1 or 2.2 are the one we want for the GPS though and they are said to have fixed the 2D graphics in the latest GMA500 port.

But still no 3D which will hurt any 3D GPS if you want it. They are trying to get information from Jolicloud on how they did the GMA500.

It is so stupid that they won't release the drivers. It is an old platform - what harm can it do?

Wasnt it more of a we wont release (wont provide support) issue?
